Hi Guys,

As we faced email lose when using this maillist provided by sf.net,
base on IRC discussion with Tony, we would like to move to
github(git and doc) + fedorahosted maillist

I have applied two maillist on fedorahosted:

* libstoragemgmt-***@lists.fedorahosted.org
https://lists.fedorahosted.org/mailman/listinfo/libstoragemgmt-devel
* libstoragemgmt-***@lists.fedorahosted.org
https://lists.fedorahosted.org/mailman/listinfo/libstoragemgmt-users

Maillist migration procedure:

* Update sf.net webpage, wiki, README, rpm SPEC, to point to
new github page:
http://libstorage.github.io/libstoragemgmt-doc/
And maillist point to fedorahosted.org

* We use new maillist and CC to old one for a month.

* If anyone mailed to old maillist, I will reply with a suggest
to use new maillist.

Concerns:

1. Is that possible to set sf.net maillist autoreply if any user
email in?

2. Do we keep the sf.net git repo?
I would suggest we remove every files in it, and leave a file
'MOVED_TO_GITHUB.txt' in the top folder.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Is it possible/desirable to mass-move sf subscribers to the new mailing
list?

Is it possible to totally disable the sf git repository so that we don't
even get gitweb access? I'd either do that, or what you suggest. Keeping
the git repository with no very very obvious indication that it has
moved can be very confusing :)

Hi Christophe Fergeau,

I don't know a way to automatically register an email address
into fedorahosted maillist without its owner to confirm it.

Not sure how other people treat this, but it's rude to me if anyone
try to register me to new maillist without check with me first.

Considering we only have 32 subscriber of libstoragemgmt-devel and
18 for libstoragemgmt-users, I could manually reply them if any of
them still using the old maillist.

On the contrary, I think keeping warning file is less confusing.

If we remove the git repo, when user invoke 'git pull', it will got
404 or other errors, they have to investigate whether sf.net git goes
down, or his gitconfig truncated by xfs again, or other 100
possibilities.

After minutes or hours, they finally found out "aha, they moved the
github".

But if we keep single simple file in that repo, next git pull will
give them a clear warning: 'MOVED_TO_GITHUB.txt'. The github url could
be stored in that file also.

Does this works for you?

Thank you for letting us know your concerns.

Best regards.

Mailman has an interface to subscribe other people from the admin
interface. In this case I don't think it's rude, so if that's available
I think we should utilize it.

Hi Tony,

The fedorahosted maillist do have a 'Mass Subscriptions' page could do
so.

We could discuss this in the coming IRC meeting.

Thanks.

Ah I did not think of people with existing repositories, that's a very
good point, and it's indeed better not to disable the repository, at
least for now. Thanks for the rationale.
